BOOK DISCUSSION GROUPS FOR ADULTS
September 7th - October 5th
November 2nd - December 7th
11:00 am
The Tuesday Book Discussion Group meets the first Tuesday of each month at 11:00 am, in the Martin Polin Community Room of the Atascadero-Martin Polin Library. All adult patrons are invited to participate. A different book is discussed each month, old or new, fiction or non-fiction, by authors from all over the world. The only qualifications for the books chosen are that they are well written, interesting and available in the library system. For further information on this free program, call Deborah at 461-6161.
FUTURE PROGRAMS: Program: Free Writing Workshop "Picture Books: More Than Chatterbox Cows"
Instructor: Author Sherry Shahan will lead a writing workshop, focusing on the two oldest forms of storytelling -- words and images -- as they merge in picture books. She will explore and discuss the various types of books within this popular category, including poetry, biography, concept (such as ABC books), creative nonfiction, etc. Writers are asked to bring a working draft of a picture book manuscript. Please keep it under 700 words.
Ages: 18 and older
Time: Saturday September 12 - 10-12 AM
Location: Martin Polin Community Room at the Atascadero Library
For information call Brian at 461-6162.
RECAP OF RECENT PROGRAMS:
Motorcycles: On Wednesday, August 5:

Clement Salvadori, author of "Motorcycle Journeys through California," gave helpful hints on what to see in our Golden State on your two-wheeled machine. Mr. Salvadori showed slides of the various haunts he visited; his book was available for purchase. This event was attended to capacity and was much enjoyed!
Space Exploration, Astronomy and the Cosmos - Wednesday, June 24: Walter Reil, the solar system ambassador volunteer from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, presented an adult multimedia space show ... taking the audience from NASA space centers on earth into the deep recesses of the grand universe. This was an extremely well attended lecture, and was fascinating.
Snapshots: Writing Workshop - January 2009: Many thanks to
Eileen O'Grady (photo left) for her skilled facilitation of the
Snapshots Writing Workshop. This hands-on, 3-session workshop
for beginners to advanced beginners was presented in January
and gave over 17 attendees information regarding recalling their past,
polishing their writing skills, and publishing information.
Some attendees are forming writing review groups to continue to perfect
their writing skills.
Acupuncture - Wednesday, October 29:
Keiko Ishikawa,
owner of Templeton Healing Arts, discussed the uses and background of the ancient treatment of acupuncture. An actual acupuncture demonstration was part of the program.
