The Women's Legacy Fund Advisory Committee, a community partners of Friends of the Library, needs your help to gain valuable information about women and girls in SLO County. Please assist us with completing the on-line survey yourself and encouraging others to participate!
The results of the surveys along with available data will be compiled as a report to the community and used to guide the grantmaking efforts of the Women's Legacy Fund. The report will address the education, health, safety, and economic well being of women and girls in SLO County. You can find a link to them on the Community Foundation's home page.

PAST EVENTS: The Library still has a long way to go to reach its goal and the Friends of the Library are thankful for the many shining stars in Atascadero that have joined in support of this important campaign, and look forward to awarding the entire community with an expanded library that will meet its growing needs.
On Saturday, March 13, 2010, the first annual Atascadero: Dancing with Our Stars was held at the Atascadero Lake Pavilion. Fun was had by all in the unique event which brought in close to $30,000. The event, modeled on the popular TV show, featured dance performances by many Atascadero celebrities, including Barbie Butz, Molly and Giovanni Comin, Jay DeCou, Jim Lewis, Joanne Main, Jim Patterson, E. J. R
ossi, Keith Schmidt, and Tina Wysong.
The "stars" proved their stuff on and off the dance floor in the sold out event, bringing in a total of $16,793 in "votes" to aid in the library expansion campaign. Although each star received an award for their achievements, the evenings top honors went to:
2nd place with 654 votes, Jim Patterson
1st place with 730 votes, Jim Lewis

On the second Monday of each month, from 3 p.m.-8 p.m., Tastee Freez/Wieneschnitzel will donate 15% of their proceeds to the library expansion. The winter dates are January 11, February 8, and March 8.
On Saturday, March 10, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. the Library presents Close Encounters with a Red-Tailed Hawk
with Kara Hagedorn, a Raptor Biologist and Sunshine, an injured Red-tailed Hawk. The fun and interesting program (for ages 4 and older) will present identification, behavior and adaptations of local birds of prey. Come see a Hawk up-close for a greater appreciation of this beautiful species!
October 24, 2009: “the ART of CHAIRity” Gala at the Red Tree Gallery featured local artists using story and fable themes to create collectible children's chairs that were auctioned to benefit the library campaign. The new Atascadero restaurant Fig created appetizers at cost while Peachy Canyon and Wild Horse wineries provided wine. Guitarist Adam Levine entertained the guests before the auction. The event netted $10,000 for the expansion campaign. Special thanks to Wendy Rogers, owner of The Red Tree Gallery, for hosting and assisting at this event, and to the events committee, led by Leigh Livick.
September 18, 2009: the Brickyard Theatre production of "Humble Boy" netted close to $2000 for the campaign. Local director/producer Anet Carlin and her husband Charley were recognized as Community Partners for their support of the library expansion effort. 
July 25, 2009: This “sold-out” fundraiser, featured a delightful menu of appetizers from Hush Harbor, paired with wines from Kelsey Winery in See Canyon. Entertainment included piano solos by Cindy Dixon and vocals by Morgan Monroe. Attendees also participated in a literary quiz and a live auction to benefit the library.
June 9, 2009: Members of the Atascadero FOL attended the Board of Supervisors meeting where county library director Brian Reynolds presented the Vision Document for the libraries in San Luis Obispo county. FOL members from many cities, including Atascadero, spoke to the Supervisors about the important role played in the community by the library.
Sunday, May 31: This fashion show and brunch fundraiser featured fashions from CHICO'S in San Luis Obispo, was held at the home of Martha Pedersen. Those attending learned about library expansion developments. They were encouraged to patronize CHICO'S the weekend of June 6-7, 2009.
